Monsignor Nouel.- The young man identified as responsible for fatally shooting Wilbet Fernández Ortiz, 19, in the neck, surrendered to the authorities on the afternoon of this Monday, during a violent incident that occurred on Sunday morning in the Pedro Santana sector, Bonao.
The detainee is Eliezel Peña Cuello, 20 years old, who voluntarily presented himself to the Cibao Sur Regional Directorate of the National Police, accompanied by his father, after remaining at large for several hours after the crime.
According to preliminary reports, the tragedy occurred after a heated discussion between the two young people at the entertainment center "La Perra", where they were sharing moments before the event.
Witnesses indicate that the confrontation would have originated due to alleged jealousy related to a woman who maintained a sentimental relationship with the victim.
In the midst of the altercation, the now-accused allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot Fernández Ortiz, hitting him in the neck. The wound caused his death almost immediately, leaving those present in shock.
After committing the act, the alleged murderer left the scene while being actively sought by the authorities, until he finally decided to surrender.
The body was taken by the medical examiner who certified the death, then transferred to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) in Santiago, where the corresponding autopsy was performed.
Peña Cuello will be placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry in the coming hours for the knowledge of a coercive measure.
The crime has caused outrage and pain among family members and residents of the Los Transformadores sector, who demand justice and a greater police presence in the area due to the increase in violent acts linked to personal conflicts.
