Santo Domingo, DR.– A Puerto Plata court sentenced Wilfrido Ramos, known as “Junior” or “El Mello,” to 20 years in prison after he was found guilty of sexually assaulting a 33-year-old woman in the municipality of Sosúa, in an incident that occurred in 2022.
The sentence was issued by an ad hoc Collegiate Court of the Judicial District of Puerto Plata, which accepted the evidence presented by the Public Prosecutor’s Office and determined the criminal responsibility of the accused.
Ramos will serve the sentence at the San Felipe Correction and Rehabilitation Center (CCR), in Puerto Plata.
According to the indictment, the convicted individual deceived the victim with a fake job offer and took her to a remote, wooded area on Alta Vista Street, in the Los Cerros sector of Sosúa, where he attacked her with a bladed weapon and subsequently committed the sexual assault under death threats.
During the incident, the assailant also allegedly stripped the victim of their cell phone and cash, before fleeing the scene on a motorcycle.
The investigations were led by prosecutor Dilsia Taveras, of the Attention Unit for Victims of Gender-Based Violence, Intrafamily Violence, and Sexual Crimes of the Puerto Plata Prosecutor’s Office, who gathered the evidence that allowed the accusation to be supported.
