Mexico’s exports to the US reach a record in May of about 54.18 billion dollars

Mexico City.- Mexico’s exports to the United States reached a value of 54.18 billion dollars last May, a historical record for any month, highlighted the Ministry of Economy (SE) of Mexico this Tuesday, citing data from the United States Census Bureau.

In addition, he said that during the same period, Mexico imported goods from the United States totaling 33.050 billion dollars, according to the same source.

“Mexico’s record historical exports to the United States are explained by the preferential position our country maintains to access the U.S. market, the best in the world,” noted the head of the SE, Marcelo Ebrard, in the statement.

And he highlighted the fact that in “the context of higher tariffs imposed by the United States globally, Mexico is breaking export records to that country“.

The statement also noted that in the 12-month period between June 2025 and May 2026, “Mexico’s exports to the U.S. reached 558 billion dollars (an 8% increase compared to the same previous period).

While Mexico’s imports from that country totaled 358.9 billion dollars (a 7% increase).

With this data, the agency noted, “Mexico consolidates itself as the largest trading partner of the United States, ahead of Canada, China, Taiwan, and Vietnam“.

The United States trade deficit increased by 42.2% in May, reaching 77.6 billion dollars, according to data published this Tuesday by the Census Bureau and the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA).

This represents an increase of $23 billion from the revised figure of $54.6 billion in April, amid the fluctuations caused by the tariff policy of U.S. President Donald Trump, who saw much of his tariff scheme struck down in February by the Supreme Court.

In May, imports by the world’s largest economy increased by 3.3% from the previous month, to $395.3 billion, while exports fell by 3.2%, to $317.7 billion.
