Ministry of Defense incorporates 179 new vehicles and five aircraft to strengthen the Armed Forces

Santo Domingo.– The Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre, stated this Friday that the Armed Forces continue to advance in their modernization process with the incorporation of new equipment, the renovation of military facilities, and the strengthening of their technological and logistical capabilities.

During an event led by President Luis Abinader at the San Isidro Air Base, Fernández Onofre highlighted that these actions are part of the State’s commitment to strengthening national defense and preparing military institutions to respond to current and future challenges.

The minister reported that seven completely renovated and equipped areas of the San Isidro Air Base were reopened, including barracks for soldiers, rooms for officers, the medical dispensary, cafeteria, beauty salon, transport areas, disciplinary room, pavilion for enlisted personnel, and the air defense squadron.

He explained that the renovations included the renewal of floors, ceilings, windows, bathrooms, offices, the installation of air conditioning systems, as well as new furniture, with the purpose of improving the living and working conditions of the military personnel.

Regarding technology, Fernández Onofre announced the addition of five new vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) unmanned aircraft, designed to expand surveillance and response capabilities in national airspace. Likewise, he indicated that the Armed Forces received a mobile unit equipped with an unmanned system mounted on an all-terrain vehicle, intended to operate in remote or difficult-to-access areas during emergency situations.

The head of Defense also reported the delivery of 179 new vehicles, distributed as 76 pickup trucks for patrolling, 25 trucks for personnel transport and supply, seven minibuses, four minivans, and 67 motorcycles, with the aim of strengthening the logistical and operational capacity of military institutions.

Fernández Onofre highlighted that, with this delivery, the Armed Forces have received 1,206 vehicles since the beginning of President Luis Abinader’s administration on August 16, 2020, as part of the process of strengthening and modernizing the military institution.
