Santo Domingo.- The communicator Miralba Ruíz recently revealed unpublished details about her experience after participating as a finalist in the Miss Dominican Republic 1995 contest, where she obtained the title of Miss Latin America. During an interview on the program “Trayectoria”, the presenter explained that, far from being a stage of celebration, the period after the contest was marked by tensions with the organization. According to reports, the differences began shortly after the contest ended, when she was preparing to represent the country in an international competition in Colombia. Ruiz assured that her relationship with the then head of the contest, designer Jorge Diep, deteriorated due to requests with which she did not feel comfortable. “I had to travel to Colombia and finally didn’t go to my contest, not because I didn’t want to, but because after winning, my relationship with the organization began to deteriorate,” she explained. The communicator maintained that demands began to arise that she was not willing to accept. In that sense, she stated that the designer proposed that she share with “some friends” as a condition for facilitating her international participation. “He had some friends he wanted me to go out with, and I didn’t want to. Then he told me that way he would save my family the expense of going to a contest abroad,” said Ruiz, who insisted that her family was prepared to bear the costs.

Faced with her refusal, the situation escalated. “He told me: ‘if it’s not done my way, you’re not going to the contest’, and I replied: ‘well, I’m not going to Colombia'”, she narrated. She even claimed that she was threatened with legal action for breach of contract, to which she responded by questioning whether they really wanted her to attend under those conditions. Finally, the communicator decided not to participate in the international contest and took measures that reflected her disagreement. “You already sent the photos, but I’m going to arrive like this, are you sure you want me to go?”, she recalled having said, after changing her appearance. Ruiz concluded by pointing out that, although the situation was difficult, she later managed to close that chapter by handing over the sash and the crown without major inconveniences.
