Updated cyclonic activity in the Atlantic basin, the Caribbean Sea, and the Gulf of Mexico or America:
Tropical Storm Lorenzo is weakening more and more but is holding on. It is located about 2280 kilometers west/northwest of the Cape Verde islands with maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h and is moving north at 20 km/h. Due to its geographical position, we remain attentive to the evolution and development of this system.
The heat will continue, we recommend drinking water, wearing light-colored clothing, seeking cool and ventilated places to mitigate the high temperatures.
Tomorrow, Thursday, the prefrontal trough will directly affect the national territory, so there will be extensive cloud cover, generating scattered showers from the early hours of the morning in provinces of the Atlantic coast and the Caribbean coast. During the afternoon, a tropical wave will be approaching the country, which will favor, together with the trough, moderate to heavy showers, accompanied by electrical storms and wind gusts, towards the north, Cordillera Central, Cibao Valley, the border area and southeast. We anticipate that these activities will be gradually decreasing during the night in intensity and frequency.
National District: isolated passing showers, then scattered clouds.
Santo Domingo Norte: passing showers, then scattered clouds.
Santo Domingo Este: brief, passing showers, scattered clouds.
Santo Domingo Oeste: scattered passing showers, then scattered clouds.
Temperatures: the minimum will be between 21 °C and 23 °C and the maximum between 33 °C and 35 °C.
Summary: A prefrontal trough will produce cloudiness with showers, thunderstorms, and wind gusts in the afternoon and evening… Meteorological alerts are issued for several provinces… It is reported that Lorenzo poses no danger to the country… Both coasts normal… Hot temperatures and cooling slightly in mountain areas.
On Friday, rainfall associated with the trough, the tropical wave, and the cold front cloudiness will persist; these systems will combine to cause showers of different intensities, thunderstorms, and wind gusts, more frequent during the afternoon and night, in the north, northeast, Central Mountain Range, and southeast regions. In the Cibao Valley, particularly in provinces such as Santiago, La Vega, Monseñor Nouel, Duarte, and María Trinidad Sánchez, these precipitations could be moderate to heavy. This activity is expected to gradually decrease during the night.
