Mexico City. – The Secretariat of the Navy (Semar), in coordination with the United States Coast Guard (USCG), secured a vessel at sea that was transporting more than 180 bundles of alleged cocaine, as part of joint actions to combat the illicit drug trade.
The operation was carried out west of Clarion Island, outside of Mexico's Exclusive Economic Zone, following maritime patrol and surveillance efforts supported by the exchange of information between both institutions.
According to the authorities, approximately 188 packages with characteristics similar to cocaine were found on the vessel. The exact quantity and weight of the cargo will be determined through the corresponding expert assessments by the ministerial authorities.
The crew members were detained and placed at the disposal of the competent authorities, who will define their legal situation in accordance with the law.
