Russians began voting this Friday in municipal and regional elections throughout the country, elections that extend until Sunday with attention focused on the regions bordering Ukraine, which suffer daily drone attacks.
"In the Belgorod region (which borders Ukraine), truly heroic people live. Our colleagues have demonstrated their authenticity, their special pride, dignity, courage, and bravery," declared the chairwoman of the Central Election Commission (CEC), Ela Pamfilova, after the death of a woman during the bombings of the past day, when almost 140 drones attacked the region.
According to Pamfilova, as announced yesterday, a total of 6,589 alternative polling stations have been set up in the border regions to ensure that citizens of eight Russian regions can vote safely, including Belgorod.
For his part, the vice president of the commission, Nikolai Bulaev, announced today that more than 4,000 people have already cast their votes in the extraterritorial polling stations to Moscow.
The election will last until Sunday in 81 regions of the Russian Federation.
In addition to the annual municipal elections, the governors of 20 regions will be directly elected, and in one, the relevant assembly will elect them.
The southern Russian regions, especially those bordering Ukraine, are suffering daily attacks with Ukrainian drones whose primary objective is to neutralize the energy production capacity that fuels Russia's war machine, but which have also caused civilian casualties.
