Nagua, María Trinidad Sánchez. The Mayor’s Office of Nagua, with the support of the Special Fund for Agricultural Development (FEDA), announced the celebration of the Sixth Coconut Festival “FESTI COCO 2026”, an activity that seeks to promote the production of this crop and position the province as a national benchmark for the sector.
The event will take place from July 15th to 19th in the vicinity of Nagua’s Central Park, with an agenda that will include educational workshops, cultural and sports activities, gastronomic demonstrations, artistic performances, and promotional spaces for coconut-derived products.
The María Trinidad Sánchez province concentrates a significant part of the national coconut production, contributing more than 33% of the country’s total, which makes it a strategic area for the development of this agricultural activity.
The initiative aims to highlight the economic value of the coconut, as well as its importance in gastronomy and industry, through the exhibition of products such as sweets, oils, creams, and other derivatives.
During the announcement, the executive director of FEDA, Hecmilio Galván, highlighted the institution’s commitment to strengthening the sector through the National Plan for the Relaunch of the Coconut Subsector, especially through the “Tamo en Coco” program.

Galván explained that, through planting and plantation rehabilitation projects, the goal is to support producers in the renewal and expansion of their crops with higher-quality varieties, with the aim of increasing productivity.
Likewise, he pointed out that the Dominican Government, led by President Luis Abinader, is promoting actions to benefit hundreds of producers and expand the areas destined for coconut planting in María Trinidad Sánchez and other areas of the country.

The official also highlighted the support for future coconut industrialization projects, including a derivative processing plant that would allow adding value to local production through the creation of cream, milk, and other products.
