Santo Domingo. – The National Police participated in the VI Digital Security and Cyberintelligence Congress 2026, held from June 2 to 4 in the city of Ávila, Spain, as part of institutional efforts to strengthen its technological capabilities and advance the digital transformation process.
The event, organized at the National Police School of Spain under the coordination of the Ibero-American Police School (IBERPOL), brought together specialists and representatives of security agencies from different countries to address the main challenges in cybersecurity and digital intelligence.
The Dominican delegation was composed of Sergeant Major Luis Francisco Berroa Núñez, head of Information and Communication Technology at the Higher Police Education Institute (IPES), and Ángel Gabriel Gautreaux Frías, head of the Regulatory Compliance and Cybersecurity Audit Division of the National Police.
Knowledge exchange and new technologies
During the congress, police representatives participated in conferences, workshops, and exhibitions on artificial intelligence applied to criminal investigations, protection of technological infrastructures, digital intelligence analysis, and cybercrime prevention.

Among the topics addressed were multilayer security solutions powered by artificial intelligence, psychological profiling of cybercriminals using virtual human intelligence (vHUMINT) techniques, and the analysis of digital footprints on the internet for investigative purposes.
Likewise, they received training on the use of TASER devices and learned about legal aspects related to the implementation of new technologies in public security tasks.
Facing new digital threats
The meeting also allowed for delving into issues related to the preservation of institutional digital memory, the risks associated with the misuse of artificial intelligence, and new forms of cyber fraud.
These threats include Business Email Compromise (BEC) schemes and CEO fraud, mechanisms used by criminal organizations to obtain financial resources through digital deception.

The National Police reported that the knowledge acquired will be shared through training programs and academic activities developed by the Police Institute of Higher Education (IPES) and the Central Directorate of Digital Transformation.
The institution highlighted that its participation in this international scenario reaffirms its commitment to the continuous training of its personnel, technological modernization, and the adoption of international best practices to strengthen the prevention, investigation, and prosecution of technological crimes.
