Santiago.- The Minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, assured this Wednesday that the monorail of Santiago de los Caballeros will begin operating in 2026, after leading a supervision tour in which he demanded to accelerate the works and precisely define the delivery date.
The official described the work as “determinant” for the transformation of the city, stating that its impact will be “forceful” on mobility, urban development, and the quality of life of citizens.
During the inspection, Paliza met with the contractors responsible for the project to assess progress and adjust the schedule.
In that sense, he warned that the Government expects to see units in operation before the end of the year.
He also informed that President Luis Abinader will lead a Council of Ministers in Santiago in early June, with the aim of directly following up on the main works being carried out in the northern region.
The monorail is considered one of the government’s key infrastructures to decongest traffic in Santiago and consolidate its economic growth, amid a growing demand for mass transit solutions.
