Santo Domingo.– The popular merengue artist Pochy Familia described the launch of the Master’s Degree in Collective Management of Artistic and Cultural Productions at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) as a historic event, asserting that it will contribute to the professionalization of those involved in the cultural industry.
During the opening ceremony of the academic program, Familia explained that this is the first master’s degree of its kind in Latin America, focused specifically on collective management and not on areas such as copyright or intellectual property.
“It is the first one to be held in Latin America regarding collective management. It is not strictly about copyright or intellectual property; it is specifically about collective management, where we are going to professionalize all the people involved in the cultural industry,” he/she expressed.
The merengue artist indicated that the program is aimed at professionals linked to various artistic expressions, including music, painting, literature, sculpture, audiovisual arts, acting, and screenwriting.

Likewise, he stated that the initiative represents a significant step forward for the strengthening of the cultural sector, by providing specialized knowledge that will also benefit institutions such as the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Judiciary in matters related to the creative industry.
“This is a great opportunity for the professionalism of all of us who work in the cultural industry,” he maintained.
Familia reported that the master’s degree will last for two years and called on everyone involved in the cultural sector to join the program.

“I would like everyone involved in the cultural industry to participate, because this is going to mark a turning point in terms of the professionalization of us, the rights holders, the users who utilize our content, and everyone who works around the cultural industry,” he concluded.
The Master’s Degree in Collective Management of Artistic and Cultural Productions, promoted by the Vice-Rector’s Office for Research and Postgraduate Studies and the Faculty of Arts of the UASD, officially began this Monday with the 2026-2028 cohort.
