Police officer seriously injured after bus accident in Cabral municipality

Barahona, R.D.– A National Police officer is in critical condition after being seriously injured in a traffic accident that occurred on the afternoon of this Thursday, January 8, 2026, at the intersection of the municipality of Cabral, province of Barahona, where he was hit by a public transport bus.

The uniformed man was identified as Sergeant Major Keylis Pérez Gómez, assigned to the 21st company of the Southern Regional Directorate of the National Police, based in Barahona. At the time of the incident, the non-commissioned officer was traveling on a black CG motorcycle, when the collision occurred. According to the medical report issued by the Jaime Mota Regional University Hospital, the agent presents multiple traumas and a fracture of the femur in the right leg, therefore he remains under specialized medical care due to the severity of the injuries.

In the accident, a public transport bus covering the route Pedernales–Santo Domingo, brand Toyota Coaster, white color, license plate I070381, driven by Silvio Manuel Pérez Santos, was involved. According to information obtained, the bus driver is under custody of the General Directorate of Traffic and Land Transportation Safety (Digesett) in the Southern Regional, in Barahona, where he is being investigated in accordance with established legal procedures. The incident has generated concern among both members of the law enforcement institution and residents of the area, who await the prompt recovery of the police officer and the clarification of the circumstances in which the accident occurred.
