Santo Domingo.– Representatives from the institutional and political spheres attended this Tuesday’s funeral of leader Rafael Antonio “Fello” Suberví Bonilla, where they agreed to highlight his legacy as an honest, empathetic, and deeply human public servant.
In that regard, the Ombudsman, Pablo Ulloa, offered a moving message addressed to the former official’s family, highlighting his example as a public servant.
“Fello fue un hombre solidario, empático y cumplidor de su palabra. No solo fue dirigente, fue un ciudadano consagrado al servicio público. Su legado marca a los que hoy lideramos instituciones, y su figura seguirá siendo una referencia del funcionario que entiende que el ser humano va por encima de todo”,
expresó.
On his part, the communicator and former Minister of Tourism Elís Pérez, who was succeeded by Suberví in that portfolio, recalled his performance at the head of the ministry and his approachable character.
“Aunque no venía del sector turístico, rápidamente se adaptó, se actualizó e hizo una gestión eficaz. Fue un secretario de Estado comprometido, y como persona era afable, siempre con una sonrisa. Lo recordaré con cariño y respeto”,
señaló Pérez.
In that same vein, veteran political leader Rafael “Fafa” Taveras also expressed his sorrow, recalling the relationship of brotherhood he maintained with Fello at key moments in the democratic history of the country.
“Fuimos amigos y compañeros tanto en la paz como en la guerra. Fello no fue de los que se aprovecharon del cargo, fue un hombre con vocación de servicio inmutable. Nunca tuvo enemigos, era un político que apostaba al apoyo, a la amistad y al trabajo colectivo”, afirmó. “Aunque la muerte es un límite, Fello deja una vida que facilitará que se le recuerde bien”,
agregó.
Fello’s funeral was also attended by the former Minister of Culture, Milagros Germán, and the current one, Roberto Ángel Salcedo, who also highlighted his human value and vocation for service.
About Rafael (Fello) Suberví Bonilla
Bonilla held important public positions, including Secretary of Tourism on two occasions, (1982-1986), in the Government of Salvador Jorge Blanco, and from 2001 to 2004, under the mandate of Hipólito Mejía.
He was also mayor of the National District in two periods, from 1986 to 1990 and from 1994 to 1998.
