What are the issues that displace citizen insecurity in the ranking of concerns of Dominicans?
The proposal by the president of the Modern Revolutionary Party (
PRM), José Ignacio Paliza, for parties to be "obligated subjects" under Law 155-17, a move aimed at closing the door to drug trafficking in politics and subjecting organizations to anti-money laundering controls, is widely supported by the Dominican population, according to the results of the polling firm SONDEOS.
According to this data, the initiative announced this week by the Minister of the Presidency, which the PRM will present to Congress, to turn political parties into entities obliged to report financial movements, apply internal audits and verify the origin of funds and militants, as banks, high-risk NGOs and other regulated sectors already do, is supported by 86% of respondents, against 10% who responded negatively and 4% who did not give an opinion.
Strong rejection of the Constitutional Court ruling that decriminalizes same-sex sexual relations in the armed forces
Another topic to which Dominicans responded was the question of what opinion they had about the ruling of the Constitutional Court TC/1225/25, through which it resolved a direct action of unconstitutionality, declaring the nullity of article 210 of Law No. 285, of June 1966, which creates the Code of Justice of the National Police, as well as article 260 of Law No. 3483, of February 1953, which creates the Code of Justice of the Armed Forces. 93% responded against the decision of the TC, and only 4% were in favor, while 3% did not answer.
Broad support for the new United States ambassador to the country
According to these new POLL results, 89% of Dominicans are very optimistic about the arrival in the country of the new United States ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Leah Francis Campos. 83% said that her presence will be beneficial for the country and 6% believe it will be somewhat beneficial. Only 7% responded negatively.
The study was conducted by the renowned polling firm SONDEOS on November 25th, with a total of 800 cases nationwide, among Dominicans over 18 years of age, and an approximate margin of error of 3.5%. It was carried out digitally.
The Attorney General of the Republic leads citizen confidence, according to study
The Attorney General of the Republic, Yeni Berenice Reynoso, has high citizen support, according to the measurement by the polling firm SONDEOS. She has 82% positive valuation and 4% regular, while the negative is 11%.
Business owners and media also receive high support and citizen trust, according to study
In a context where information, both real and false, abounds, people daily face the debate on which sources to trust to learn about political decisions, economic performance, or current events. The level of trust towards entrepreneurs, political parties, and the media also comes into play. The consulting firm SONDEOS, in this new study, found as an initial conclusion that 81% of the population has a high level of trust in Dominican entrepreneurs, while 8% have a regular opinion and 9% have a low opinion.
Meanwhile, 71% respond that they have a high level of trust in the media, compared to 19% who responded that they have a low level. While the level towards the Supreme Court of Justice is 63% and 19% rejection. Towards the National Congress, citizen confidence is 57% affirmative and 23% negative. While towards the municipal mayors the confidence is 54% support and 21% rejection. A fact that continues to attract attention: only 53% trust political parties, compared to 29% who responded the opposite.
Insecurity is no longer the main concern of Dominicans
Citizen insecurity was —for a long time— the issue that led the ranking of the main concerns of Dominicans. But now, perhaps due to the lower records that the official statistics have been showing, that leadership was displaced. Today, according to this new survey, the quality of life (59%), the energy crisis (57%) and the uncertainty about the economic situation (51%) head the TOP-3 of citizen concerns.
