San Cristóbal.– The province of San Cristóbal awoke in mourning this Friday following the passing of professor Freddy García, a distinguished educator at the Instituto Politécnico Loyola (IPL), where he dedicated nearly four decades to the education of thousands of students.
García was widely recognized for his commitment to education, social leadership, and the defense of the Dominican Republic’s natural heritage. For years, he became one of the strongest voices in favor of the protection of the Pomier Caves and other ecosystems in the province, promoting their conservation as part of the country’s historical and environmental legacy.
In addition to his academic career, he maintained an active participation in political life as a leader of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), identified with the thought and principles of the late political leader José Francisco Peña Gómez.
According to preliminary reports, the educator passed away early this Friday due to a heart attack.

His remains are being waked at the Esperanza funeral home, located across from the Loyola Polytechnic Institute, where family, friends, alumni, colleagues, and political leaders have begun to arrive to bid him a final farewell.
