Public transport driver dies after shooting attack on vehicle of the deputy director of CCR Rafey in Santiago

Santiago.- Crecencio Nolasco Cruz, a driver for route F of public transportation, passed away on the night of this Friday. He had been seriously injured during a shooting attack perpetrated by unknown individuals against the vehicle in which the deputy director of the Rafey Correction and Rehabilitation Center was traveling, in an incident that occurred in the Monterico sector of the Santiago Oeste municipal district. The driver was hit by a bullet while traveling through the area and was urgently transferred to the José María Cabral y Báez regional university hospital, where, despite medical efforts, he lost his life due to the severity of the injury. In the attack, the deputy director of the CCR Rafey, identified as Laura, was unharmed. The official was traveling in a white Mitsubishi Montero Sport SUV, which received at least seven bullet impacts, according to preliminary information.

The incident was recorded around 6:25 in the evening, when the official was leaving a restaurant known as Petecom Pollo, located on Tamboril Avenue, in the Monterico sector. According to the data provided, the attackers were riding a motorcycle and opened fire without a word, fleeing immediately after committing the act. Agents from the Central Directorate of Criminal Investigations (Dicrim) arrived at the scene to conduct the corresponding investigation, collect ballistic evidence, and deepen the investigations in order to identify those responsible and clarify the circumstances of the attack. So far, authorities have not offered additional details nor have they established whether the attack was specifically directed against the official or if it was a collateral event that ended up taking the life of the public transport driver.
