Santo Domingo. – The Vice President of the Dominican Republic, Raquel Peña, will represent the country at a high-level meeting to be held this Tuesday in Washington, United States, with the Secretary of Health and Human Services of the North American nation, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., with the purpose of exchanging experiences and addressing government strategies aimed at strengthening health systems and disease prevention.
The meeting is part of the permanent work agenda of the Health Cabinet, chaired by Peña, and reaffirms the Dominican Government’s commitment to continue strengthening public health policies through cooperation with international partners.
The meeting, which will also be attended by the United States Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Leah Campos, and the Minister of Public Health and Social Assistance, Víctor Atallah, is part of the efforts promoted by President Luis Abinader’s administration to consolidate a health system that is increasingly accessible, efficient, and focused on prevention, promoting initiatives that contribute to improving the population’s quality of life and strengthening the response capacity to the main public health challenges.
One of the central themes of the meeting will be the “Make America Healthy Again” (MAHA) initiative, promoted by the U.S. administration to address the increase in chronic diseases through policies focused on prevention, the promotion of healthy lifestyles, and families’ access to information that encourages better decisions for their healthcare.

Likewise, both delegations will exchange experiences on programs aimed at reducing risk factors associated with non-communicable diseases, strengthening primary care, promoting health education, and developing strategies to improve the health indicators of their respective populations.
Raquel Peña will depart for Washington this Tuesday the 14th in the morning hours from the San Isidro Air Base. The visit also represents an opportunity to strengthen the ties of cooperation between the Dominican Republic and the United States in areas of common interest related to public health, innovation in health policies, and the exchange of technical knowledge that contributes to the development of more sustainable health systems.
