Regional Education Director in Santiago clarifies that student's death is not linked to gangs and calls for attention to student behavior

Santiago.- The regional director 08 of the Ministry of Education, Pedro Pablo Marte, reported this Saturday that the homicide of the student Noelvin Jeremías, 14 years old, which occurred outside the Simón Antonio Luciano polytechnic, is not related to gang conflicts, as had been speculated, but rather originated from "a discussion derived from a basketball game". Mars explained that, according to preliminary information, the incident was triggered after an altercation between the two teenagers during a sports practice. "It seems there was a struggle, a blow; you know that these kids get their adrenaline up. One went after the other after they left the educational center, looking to resolve personal issues, and that's where the incident occurred," he pointed out. The official insisted that there is no evidence linking the tragedy to criminal groups that allegedly operate in the educational center. "We totally deny that this death is related to gangs. That version does not correspond to reality," he affirmed. The victim, Noelvin Jeremías Rubiera, was in the second year of high school when he was stabbed in the heart by another student, whose identity is omitted for legal reasons. The aggressor, 15 years old, remains in custody while investigations proceed. Mars called for greater attention to the emotional and social behavior of students, pointing out that situations like this evidence the need to strengthen educational and family intervention to avoid more acts of violence.
