Retired National Police General Francisco Antonio Portes Milanés passed away this Friday afternoon after collapsing while participating in a basketball tournament.
A video captured by one of the attendees shows the moment the former officer falls onto the court, which prompted a quick reaction from those present, who immediately rushed to provide assistance.
According to the images, several of his companions attempted to resuscitate him using first aid maneuvers while waiting for medical help. However, despite the efforts made, Portes Milanés could not be revived and passed away at the scene.
Francisco Antonio Portes Milanés performed his last role within the National Police in the Puerto Plata province, where he held a command position until 2020, before his retirement from the institution.
The event has caused dismay among family members, friends, former comrades-in-arms, and members of the sports community, who lamented his unexpected passing.
