Sergeant allegedly confessed to the death of his mother-in-law in Villa Riva; authorities intensify the investigation

The investigation into the disappearance of Rosa Marte, reported since July 9th in the municipal district of Barraquito, in Villa Riva, took a decisive turn after Marielis Figuereo, a sergeant in the Dominican Republic Air Force (FARD) and the victim’s daughter-in-law, allegedly confessed to taking her life.

The revelation has caused shock among the members of the community, who for several days had been demanding answers regarding the woman’s whereabouts. With this confession, the authorities are redirecting the investigation, which initially focused on clarifying the circumstances of the disappearance.

According to investigations, Rosa Marte left her home on the morning of July 9 after receiving information that one of her children had suffered an alleged accident in Santo Domingo. Convinced of the emergency, the woman left her house accompanied by her daughter-in-law, after leaving the keys to the residence with a neighbor.

Testimonies collected during the investigation indicate that both were seen leaving the area together and that a vehicle transported them to Santo Domingo. Subsequently, the driver stated that he dropped Rosa off at the location indicated by the now-accused.

In the days following the disappearance, family members and community members reported alleged inconsistencies in the investigative process and questioned the treatment received by the detained soldier, considering that she enjoyed privileges due to belonging to a military corps. They also demanded that the case be investigated with total transparency.

The confession attributed to Marielis Figuereo has sparked outrage among the residents of Barraquito, where dozens of people remain gathered, waiting for authorities to provide further details on the case and determine the circumstances under which the crime occurred. Meanwhile, Rosa Marte’s family members reiterate their demand for justice and for all those responsible to face the corresponding legal consequences.
