Bogotá .- Singer Shakira thanked the Colombian national team this Tuesday for their performance in the 2026 World Cup, following their elimination in the round of 16 against Switzerland in a penalty shootout, and stated that the team delivered a performance that “makes everyone proud.”
“My national team has played this World Cup with a dedication that makes us all proud,” the artist wrote in a story posted on her Instagram account shortly after the defeat that ended the Tricolor’s journey in the tournament.
The artist, who provided the voice for the championship with her song ‘Dai Dai’, lamented that the team could not advance to the quarterfinals and, jokingly, stated that “it is clear that God does not get involved in soccer, because if He did, they would have made it to the quarterfinals”.
A message to Luis Díaz
Shakira also addressed Luis Díaz, who was photographed crying after the elimination, and assured that those tears represent the feelings of an entire country.
“Those tears of our Lucho Díaz are the tears of each one of us, the Colombians, who shout, get excited, sing, and celebrate every step of our national team,” he expressed.

The singer concluded her message by thanking the team led by the Argentine Néstor Lorenzo for the effort made during the championship.

“Although this result does not live up to our dreams, I want to thank this team of fighters with all my heart, who have represented us so well and made us feel so proud. I love you,” he/she wrote.
Colombia was eliminated this Tuesday from the 2026 World Cup after drawing 0-0 with Switzerland in regulation and extra time, before falling 4-3 in the penalty shootout.
