Within the framework of President Luis Abinader's policy to strengthen energy security and guarantee the necessary supply for economic growth, the generator SIBA Energy will formally begin the operation of its combined cycle in the coming days.
This process increases its net generation capacity from 190 to about 260 megawatts, representing greater coverage of national electricity demand.
The information was provided by the Unified Council of Electricity Distribution Companies (CUED), which explained that, due to adjustments for the implementation of the new system, the generator will be out of service for around five days.
The project, which involved an investment of 430 million dollars, began in November 2023 and consists of recovering the heat that escapes from the turbines to produce additional energy without requiring extra fuel, improving efficiency and reducing the environmental impact.
This expansion is part of the Government's efforts to create conditions that attract private investment and strengthen the energy infrastructure, which is key to sustaining the pace of growth of the Dominican economy.
