Santo Domingo.- The Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of the Kingdom of Spain, José Manuel Albares Bueno, visited this Tuesday the National Legal Representation Service for the Rights of the Victim (Relevic), where he reaffirmed his country’s interest in continuing to strengthen cooperation programs with the Public Ministry of the Dominican Republic. The Attorney General of the Republic, Yeni Berenice Reynoso, received Albares Bueno along with the Minister of Women, Gloria Reyes, and the Minister of Interior and Police, Faride Raful.

Susana Sumelzo Jordán, Secretary of State for Ibero-America and the Caribbean and Spanish in the World, and Lorea Arribalzaga Ceballos, Ambassador of Spain to the Dominican Republic, were present at the meeting.

In March of this 2026, Attorney Reynoso officially established the expansion of Relevic, with the integration of a promotion of 142 victim defense lawyers and the opening of 37 new offices distributed throughout the country, a project that has the support of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID).

The AECID also supports other programs of the Public Ministry focused on the protection of women’s rights, such as the Vitalia Initiative, launched by the Attorney General’s Office in November 2025, within the framework of the activities of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The Vitalia Initiative promotes the articulation of specialized services for comprehensive care for women. Among the participants in the meeting where the progress of the programs supported by AECID within the framework of strengthening the administration of justice were discussed, are: court prosecutor María Rosalba Díaz, general director of Relevic, and prosecutor Ana Andrea Villa Camacho, head of the National Directorate against Gender Violence of the Public Ministry. Minister Albares Bueno came to the country as part of an official tour that began in Puerto Rico and includes the Dominican Republic and Mexico in the framework of the preparation for the next Ibero-American Summit scheduled to be held in Madrid in November of this 2026.
