Argentina. The Argentine justice sentenced this Wednesday Fernando Sabag Montiel and Brenda Uliarte to 10 and 8 years in prison, respectively, for considering them responsible for the attack that former President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner suffered on September 1, 2022.
After 15 months of hearings in which more than 150 witnesses participated, the only person acquitted was Nicolás Carrizo, head of the group of street vendors of copitos (cotton candy) in which Sabag Montiel, 37 years old, and Uliarte, 25 years old, worked. The prosecution had already considered that he did not know the plan to assassinate the former president.
The court unanimously rejected the annulment of the process due to the alleged non-accountability of Sabag Montiel and mental incapacity of Uriarte, as requested by their defenses. It also revealed that the grounds for the ruling will be announced on December 9.
For the attack against Fernández de Kircher, Sabag Montiel was held criminally responsible for the crime of aggravated homicide for the use of a firearm in the degree of attempt and carrying a war weapon. He was sentenced to 10 years.
