Puerto Rico.- Attorney Yolanda Varela Rosa from the Office of the Advocate for the Elderly (OPPEA), informed that an incentive of $200 will be granted for educational expenses to people over 55 years of age who are in charge of raising and directly caring for their grandchildren, through the "Grandparents Raising Grandchildren" program. The official explained that, in order to grant the incentive through reimbursement as part of the program, it will be the responsibility of the social workers of the Department of Education to identify in the schools the students whose primary guardian is a grandparent aged 55 or older in order to, then, guide them on the requirements.

According to the prosecutor, it is enough for the school social worker to identify that the grandfather takes his grandson to school to receive said incentive and she expects that her office is ready to distribute the funds, she said that she must wait for the DE to complete the registration to begin the program.

He also specified that the agency identified a $2.5 million allocation to subsidize the program.
