Mexico City.- Mexican authorities seized a package containing approximately one kilogram of fentanyl at Mexico City International Airport (AICM) this Friday. The package originated from an Asian country and is valued at around 20 million dollars.
According to a statement released by the authorities, the agents detected a package declared as 'cosmetics', which "upon being subjected to review using X-ray equipment and with the support of the canine 'Néstor', from the Customs tactical center area, tested positive for possible drugs".
The text was disseminated by the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) reported on the actions led by the Secretariats of the Navy, Defense, the Attorney General's Office (FGR), the National Guard (GN), along with Customs personnel.
The agents thoroughly inspected the package in which they located a hermetically sealed plastic bag containing a white powder, which weighed approximately one kilo.
According to the agency, this seizure prevented the production of approximately one million doses of fentanyl, with an estimated value of 20 million dollars."Following an infrared identification analysis, it tested positive for fentanyl hydrochloride, so it was channeled to the central Customs laboratory, in order to verify the weight and type of narcotic secured," the SSPC indicated.
