Trump says he will speak with Maria Corina Machado about her possible role in Venezuela

Washington .- US President Donald Trump assured this Friday that he will speak with the Venezuelan opposition leader, María Corina Machado, about her capacity to play a possible role in the future of Venezuela, when both meet next week in Washington.

“I'm going to have to talk to her. She could be involved in some aspect. I'll have to talk to her. I think it's very kind of her to want to come,” assured Trump when the press asked him if his position regarding the role of María Corina Machado in the Venezuelan Government could change if she gave him her Nobel Prize. "I can't think of anyone in history who deserves the Nobel Prize more than me, and I don't want to brag, but no one else has solved wars," Trump said in response.

Machado, who had already dedicated the Nobel to Trump when he received it, stated this Monday in an interview on the American channel 'Fox News' that "he certainly wants to give it to him and share it with him", to which the Norwegian Nobel Institute explained that a Nobel Prize cannot be transferred to third parties. "Norway is very ashamed of what happened. That is, they are being heavily criticized," the Republican assured.

The Visit of María Corina Machado

Trump insisted that he feels "very honored" by the visit of the Venezuelan opposition figure: "We have a young woman who received the Nobel Peace Prize. She is going to come to pay her respects to our country, actually to me," he considered.

These statements contrast slightly with what he himself said when he questioned Machado's ability to lead Venezuela because "she has no support or respect" in the country.

The United States has, for the time being, dismissed the Venezuelan opposition and opted for the interim government of Delcy Rodríguez, now the acting Venezuelan president, to pilot a transition that will be teleguided from Washington. The leader has also taken the opportunity to criticize former President Barack Obama (2009-2007), awarded the Nobel Peace Prize at the beginning of his term. «Obama received the Nobel Prize. He had no idea why. He still has no idea. He goes around saying: ‘Why did I receive a Nobel Prize?’ He received it almost immediately after taking office, did nothing, and was a bad president», he criticized.
