New York.- US President Donald Trump lashed out at Pope Leo XIV and said he is «terrible in foreign policy» alluding to his criticisms of Iran and Venezuela, and urged him to «stop pleasing the radical left».

"Pope Leo is WEAK on crime and terrible on foreign policy," wrote the leader on his Truth Social network, in a long message in which he urges him to "focus on being a great pope, not a politician," because "he is harming the Catholic Church." “I don't want a pope who thinks it's okay for Iran to have a nuclear weapon. I don't want a pope who considers it terrible that the United States has attacked Venezuela (...). And I don't want a pope who criticizes the President of the United States when I am doing exactly what I was elected to do,” he declared.

Trump tells Leo XIV that he should "be grateful"

Furthermore, Trump suggested that Leo XIV was elected pope "because he was American, and they thought it would be the best way to deal" with the Republican, and urges him to "be grateful". "Leon should get his act together like a pope, use common sense, stop pleasing the radical left and concentrate on being a great pope, not a politician," the president said, among other things.

«I much prefer his brother Louis to him, because Louis is totally MAGA (Make America Great Again, his campaign slogan). He understands it, and Leon doesn't,» he added.

In this almost first year of his pontificate, although always in a very cautious tone, Leo XIV has denounced some risks of global politics, lamented wars like the one in Iran, and urged to "guarantee the sovereignty" of Venezuela after the capture of Nicolás Maduro. Yesterday, Saturday, in the Vatican, he urged the world's rulers to contain all "displays of force" and to "sit at tables of dialogue and mediation", and although he did not mention specific cases, that message coincided with the negotiations between the US and Iran in Pakistan.
