New York.- US President Donald Trump said on Monday that the Peace Board he created to resolve conflicts will work with the United Nations "in some cases," and reiterated that the entity will go "beyond Gaza," focusing on "peace around the world."

Trump announced this Sunday that the member countries of the Peace Board will allocate more than $5 billion to "humanitarian and reconstruction initiatives" in devastated Gaza, and that the formal announcement will be made at the entity's first meeting, on February 19 in Washington. Asked about that first meeting on board the presidential plane this Monday, the president reiterated that "all world leaders are putting up large amounts of money" and revealed that they will work "in conjunction with the United Nations", despite his criticisms of the international organization. The president assured that the UN "is there" and stated that it "has great potential" that it has not fully used, but believes that it "can help a little".

World Leaders in the Meeting

"But we have the best leaders in the world joining the Peace Board and we will do it in conjunction with, in some cases, the United Nations, and we will see if we make the United Nations work," he said. According to Trump, the formal announcement of the donations will be made during the first meeting of the organization, founded and chaired by the American president, scheduled for February 19 at the Washington Peace Institute, recently renamed after the Republican. The entity had a founding meeting in Davos, Switzerland, last January. At least 35 heads of state and government, including those of Israel, Argentina, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt, have agreed to be part of it, while other nations, such as France, Spain, and Sweden, have rejected it.
