Washington.- The Senate of the United States approved this Tuesday in a block vote of 51 to 47 a total of 107 nominees of the president, Donald Trump, for ambassador positions, federal prosecutors and senior officials of government agencies.
Herschel Walker, former American football player and close Trump ally, was designated as the United States ambassador to the Bahamas.
In addition, federal prosecutors for the districts of Iowa and South Dakota were approved. The vote was held under the new Senate rules that allow the approval of multiple nominees with a simple majority, without the need for the traditional 60 votes.
This mass confirmation occurred amidst the partial government shutdown, which has affected various federal agencies. Republicans in the Senate have used this strategy to advance President Trump's nominations agenda, while Democrats have expressed concern about the speed of the process and the lack of debate.
