Santiago.– Amidst scenes of deep grief and outrage, the remains of 17-year-old Lisettes Noemí Almonte Peña are being waked this Monday at her parents’ home in the Los Cocos community of Jacagua. The young woman was found murdered with signs of violence in a vacant lot on the Circunvalación Norte avenue, a crime that has shaken the province of Santiago.
The wake has become a scene of weeping, helplessness, and demands for justice, as family members, friends, and neighbors assert that the young woman was a hardworking, quiet girl full of dreams, whose life was violently cut short.
“She was an exemplary person, very hardworking and loved by the entire community. She belonged to the church choir and had recently started working at a supermarket. It hurts us to see her like this; she was practically a child. We hope that the authorities take action and that this crime does not go unpunished,” expressed community member Franklin Sosa.
Those close to her maintain that Lisettes had ended a romantic relationship that, as they claim, was conflictive. Likewise, they have publicly pointed to Hansel Cabrera, her ex-partner, as the alleged person responsible for the incident, a version that has not yet been confirmed by the authorities and which is part of the ongoing investigations.
The young woman had been reported missing by her relatives since Sunday afternoon, after they lost contact with her. Her body was located Monday morning in a vacant lot located between the communities of Don Pedro and Monte Adentro, on the North Beltway, showing evident signs of violence.

The National Police and the Public Ministry reported that they are deepening investigations to establish the circumstances of the homicide and identify those responsible.
As the investigations progress, the Jacagua community remains dismayed and demands a swift response from the authorities. Amidst flowers, tears, and comforting hugs, family members promise not to rest until justice is served for the death of Lisettes Noemí Almonte Peña.
