Santo Domingo – Iliana Jhoanny Peguero, 33, widow of the former employee of the Ministry of Environment, Manuel Abreu, who committed suicide last year, went to De Último Minuto to report alleged threats and assaults that she claims put her life and the lives of her daughters at risk. According to Peguero, who resides in Ciudad Juan Bosch, Santo Domingo Este, the conflict has been going on for almost four years and is related to the commander, Sergeant Major José Miguel Flores, and his wife, Mari Elena Núñez. During this time, he claims to have been a victim of physical assaults and attempted homicides, in one of which he almost lost an eye.

“He has abused his authority as a police officer to pressure me into silence,” stated Peguero, who indicated that, despite the complaints filed, the prosecution has not yet issued arrest warrants. The woman also reported that her daughters have been victims of verbal and psychological abuse, which has worsened the family situation. Peguero requested the authorities to take immediate measures to proceed judicially against Commander Flores and his wife, warning that the constant violence they have faced could trigger a tragedy if action is not taken soon.
