Santo Domingo.– The Attorney General of the Republic, Yeni Berenice Reynoso, announced this Tuesday the appointment of academic and consultant Roberto Santana Sánchez as the new head of the General Directorate of Penitentiary and Correctional Services (DGSPC), replacing Colonel Roberto Hernández Basilio, who was incorporated into the management team of the police reform.
Santana Sánchez, who currently heads the National Office to Support Penitentiary Reform (Onaprep), created by the Executive Branch through Decree 240-24, of April 30, 2024, assumes the position with the mission of continuing the transformation process of the Dominican penitentiary system, one of the pillars within the security and justice policies promoted by the Public Ministry.

Recognized for his extensive academic career and his role as former rector of the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD), Santana has also been a consultant on issues of justice, human rights, and prison reform, actively participating in projects aimed at modernizing the national penitentiary system.
