Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy celebrated on his social media this Thursday the peace agreement sponsored by US President Donald Trump to end the war in Gaza, and expressed his hope that a similar commitment can also be achieved to end the conflict in Ukraine.
"It is important that the prospect of establishing lasting peace in the Middle East is closer to being achieved. This is important not only for the region, but for the whole world. Progress is being made on an agreement that can help everyone. If violence and war stop in one part of the world, global security increases for everyone," Zelensky wrote.
The Ukrainian president thanked Trump for facilitating the agreement and said he hopes that the Israeli hostages held by Hamas in Gaza will be released. At the same time, he added that he hopes that "there will be no more victims in Gaza" among the Palestinians.
"And we hope that global efforts will be similarly sufficient to achieve real peace for our country, in our region," Zelensky said.
The Ukrainian president concluded his message by saying that Russia "remains the main source of war and terrorism in the world" and advocated for additional "international pressure" to force the Kremlin to accept a lasting and secure peace for the region.
