Santo Domingo, May 25, 2025<\/strong> \u2014 Today, throughout the Dominican Republic<\/a>, Mother's Day<\/strong> is celebrated, one of the most endearing and significant festivities for Dominican families. This commemoration, which takes place every last Sunday of May<\/strong>, is a tradition that dates back to 1926, when it was officially established at the initiative of Trina de Moya<\/a>, wife of then-President Horacio V\u00e1squez, and the outstanding educator Ercilia Pep\u00edn, in the city of Santiago de los Caballeros. <\/p>\n\n\n

The first celebration took place on May 30, 1926, in Santiago de los Caballeros, driven by a committee created by Trina de Moya and Ercilia Pep\u00edn. Both led the establishment of the Pro-Mother's Day Committee, with the aim of paying tribute to the maternal figure and fostering a tradition of gratitude and respect. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

During that first commemoration, emblematic symbols were instituted: the red carnation to honor living mothers and the lily or tuberose to remember those who had passed away. The day was marked by public and private acts that promoted recognition and respect for motherhood. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
