With the creation of the Solidarity for Colombia Foundation to help the poorest, she transcended the ceremonial role of first lady.\n\nHis grandmother was also his mother because she took care of him after Diana Turbay Quintero, daughter of Quintero and Miguel’s mother, was murdered on January 25, 1991, by drug traffickers from the Medell\u00edn cartel who had kidnapped her in August 1990 and reacted to a rescue attempt.\n\nDiana Turbay, a journalist by profession, was mourned at the Bogota Council, but like her parents and her son, her funeral mass was celebrated at the Primada Cathedral.\n\n\n
