<\/p>\n\n\nSanto Domingo<\/strong>. \u2014 The Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (LIDOM)<\/strong> announced this Thursday that the next Autumn-Winter Baseball Championship 2025-2026<\/strong> will be dedicated to Cooperstown Hall of Fame member Juan Marichal<\/strong>, in recognition of his extraordinary career and his invaluable contribution to national and international baseball.\n\n\n

You may be interested in:<\/a><\/strong>Consultative Commission creates legal subcommittee to evaluate the project of the new Quisqueya Stadium<\/a><\/p>\n\n\nThe decision was unanimously approved by the LIDOM Board of Directors<\/strong>, headed by its president Vitelio Mej\u00eda Ortiz<\/strong>, which reflects the consensus and high regard that Dominican baseball gives to the figure of the legendary pitcher.\n\nKnown worldwide as the \u201cMonster of Laguna Verde\u201d<\/em>, Juan Antonio Marichal S\u00e1nchez<\/strong> is considered the best Dominican pitcher of all time and one of the greatest in the history of Major League Baseball. Born in Monte Cristi<\/strong> in 1937, he debuted in 1960 with the San Francisco Giants<\/strong>, a team with which he became a symbol of excellence and consistency.\n\nDuring his Major League career, Marichal accumulated 243 victories<\/strong>, 2,303 strikeouts<\/strong> and an earned run average of 2.89<\/strong>, as well as being selected nine times to the All-Star Game<\/strong> and leading the league in wins in 1963 and 1968. In 1983, he made history by becoming the first Dominican player to enter the Cooperstown Hall of Fame<\/strong>, paving the way for future generations.\n\nIn winter ball, Marichal left an indelible mark with the Leones del Escogido<\/strong>, recording 36 wins<\/strong>, 22 losses<\/strong>, an ERA of 1.87<\/strong> and 338 strikeouts in 533 innings<\/strong>, contributing to multiple club championships and solidifying his legend in Dominican baseball.\n\n\n
