More than two thousand people lost their lives and a large part of the capital was destroyed and desolate.\n\nAt that moment, President Rafael Le\u00f3nidas Trujillo Molina<\/a><\/strong> had been in power for only 18 days, after being sworn in on August 16, 1930. The magnitude of the disaster and the recovery plan he implemented allowed him to consolidate politically and strengthen his position, which contributed to his re-election in 1934.\n\n\n
