\u201cWe prefer to sacrifice the effectiveness and promptness of the entry into force of any regulations in favor of participation. But to stop changing, transforming and updating due to an eternal process of evaluation or consultations, is also to take away from the State the institutional claws to benefit the most important thing, which is the population,\u201d he affirmed.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\nNecessary measure for social protection<\/strong>\n\nDuring his intervention, the technical advisor of the SIS, Miguel Villam\u00e1n, explained with figures and specific data that the recent update of the mandatory insurance rates responds to a technical and legal need to address the magnitude of the traffic problem in the country, which places the Dominican Republic at the forefront in the number of deaths from accidents in Latin America and the Caribbean.\n\n\n

“It is urgent to update the limits and fees, as indicated by the regulations that must be done, since the amounts established more than 20 years ago are insufficient compared to the current cost of medical care, repairs and deaths,” he emphasized.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\nFor her part, Isaura Pe\u00f1al\u00f3, Legal Director of the SIS, explained that both the draft update of the minimum limits of civil liability and a survey open to citizens to present their opinions, contributions and ideas are available on the institution’s website.\n\nHe pointed out that, according to the established schedule, the next September 25th there will be a second verification and contribution meeting; and on October 31st will be the delivery of the final document with the observations received, for its entry into force on February 9, 2026.\n\n“We are ensuring a participatory, transparent, and technically rigorous process, complying with international standards of good regulatory practices and guaranteeing the legitimacy of the resulting regulatory framework,” he expressed.\n\nThe activity concluded with a question and answer session, in which the participants presented their contributions, suggestions and concerns on the subject, thus fulfilling the objective of promoting dialogue and feedback from the greatest number of actors on an issue so sensitive to the citizenry.\n\n\n
