The former governor became the <strong>first person to govern Puerto Rico to plead guilty to corruption<\/strong>.\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ab.deultimominuto.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Julio_Herrera_Velutini-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-595743\" style=\"width:454px;height:auto\" title=\"\"><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\nFor their part, Herrera Velutini&#8217;s lawyers, <strong>Lilly Ann S\u00e1nchez and Christopher Kise<\/strong>, stated in written declarations that:\n\n\u201cMr. Herrera Velutini is deeply grateful to President Donald J. Trump for granting him the benevolent pardon and looks forward to moving on with his life and dedicating his time to his family and career.\u201d\n\nV\u00e1zquez Garced, <strong>65 years old<\/strong>, had pleaded guilty in <strong>August 2025<\/strong> to a <strong>misdemeanor<\/strong> for violating campaign finance laws. Joyner had demanded corrections in the operations of the bank <strong>Bancr\u00e9dito<\/strong>, while an examination was being conducted on <strong>suspicious transactions<\/strong>.\n\nAs part of the agreement, Herrera Velutini \u2014 former president of Bancr\u00e9dito \u2014 and Rossini, a former agent of the <strong>Federal Bureau of Investigation (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fbi.gov\/investigate\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.fbi.gov\/investigate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FBI<\/a>)<\/strong>, promised to support V\u00e1zquez Garced&#8217;s campaign with <strong>political donations<\/strong> and the realization of a <strong>public opinion poll<\/strong>, the cost of which would have amounted to <strong>$500,000<\/strong> dollars.\n\nDespite that support, V\u00e1zquez Garced <strong>lost the PNP candidacy<\/strong> to <strong>Pedro Pierluisi<\/strong>, who was elected governor in the 2020 general elections.\n\nThe three convicts had their <strong>sentencing hearing scheduled for January 29<\/strong>, although Herrera Velutini&#8217;s lawyers had requested a postponement.
