Why? because in the end, this would harm consumers and companies on both sides of the Atlantic. (...) including <strong>France, Germany,<\/strong> <strong>Spain and Poland,<\/strong> according to EFE diplomatic sources - demanded on Sunday the need to <strong>activate for the first time in history the anti-coercion instrument<\/strong>, popularly known as its <strong>\"commercial bazooka\".<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\nThat instrument came into force in 2023 to address \"a situation in which a third country attempts to pressure the EU or a Member State to make a specific decision, by applying or attempting to apply measures affecting trade or investment.\"\n\nThis instrument would allow the European Commission to <strong>impose restrictions on imports and exports to the United States<\/strong>, on its investments in the EU, restrict the intellectual property rights of US companies or prohibit them from participating in public tenders.\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>You can also read: <a href=\"https:\/\/deultimominuto.net\/economia\/trump-sugiere-que\/\">Trump suggests he might raise tariffs on countries that don't accept his plans in Greenland<\/a><\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\nBut before adopting any of these two reprisals, \"seeking a diplomatic solution and dialogue will currently be the EU's approach,\" other diplomatic sources assured EFE.\n\nThat cautious position of Brussels contrasts with the forcefulness shown this Monday by the Finance Ministers of <strong>Germany and France<\/strong>, Lars Klingbeil and Roland Lescure, in <strong>rejecting Trump's commercial \u00abblackmail\u00bb<\/strong>.\n\n\n<p>\u201c<strong>We will not give in<\/strong>,\u201d assured the French headline, who stated that \u201c<strong>we exclude nothing<\/strong>\u201d and that \u201cthe set of instruments are available.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-que-implicaria-activar-el-instrumento-anticoercion\">\nWhat would activating the anti-coercion instrument entail?\n<\/h2>\n\n\nIf they wanted to activate the <strong>European anti-coercion instrument<\/strong> or 'commercial bazooka', the Member States could submit a recommendation for the European Commission to initiate an investigation.\n\nThis report, which must verify the <strong>existence of coercion<\/strong>, would have to be adopted by the Council along with <strong>a series of measures<\/strong> proposed by the European Commission.\n\nThe whole process could take <strong>between three and six months<\/strong>, but it would be \u00aba very strong signal\u00bb towards the United States, a researcher at the ODI Global study center in Brussels, David Kleinmann, told EFE.\n\n\u00abThis is the second time during the second <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=QnqSLBXXevY&amp;embeds_referring_euri=https%3A%2F%2Fefe.com%2F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">term<\/a> (of Trump) that there are very, very strong reasons to apply this instrument (anti-coercion).
