{"id":498919,"date":"2026-01-29T21:05:40","date_gmt":"2026-01-30T01:05:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/deultimominuto.net\/en\/uncategorized\/severance-pay-centers-debate-in-labor-reform-business-sector-proposes-tripartite-dialogue\/"},"modified":"2026-01-29T21:05:40","modified_gmt":"2026-01-30T01:05:40","slug":"severance-pay-centers-debate-in-labor-reform-business-sector-proposes-tripartite-dialogue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deultimominuto.net\/en\/uncategorized\/severance-pay-centers-debate-in-labor-reform-business-sector-proposes-tripartite-dialogue\/","title":{"rendered":"Severance pay centers debate in labor reform; business sector proposes tripartite dialogue"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Santo Domingo.<\/strong> \u2013 The issue of <strong>severance pay<\/strong> was once again placed at the center of the national debate on the reform of the Labor Code, with calls to resume a <strong>tripartite dialogue<\/strong> that allows consensus on pending points without affecting the acquired rights of workers.<\/p>\n\n\nDuring recent meetings with the business sector, it was highlighted that, although a significant part of the labor reform has already been agreed upon \u2014including aspects such as working hours and procedures\u2014, issues related to <strong>labor costs<\/strong>, particularly the severance regime, are still pending.\n\nFrom the business sector, it has been reiterated that <strong>the elimination of severance pay is not proposed<\/strong>, but rather its <strong>adaptation<\/strong>, with the aim of strengthening the country's competitiveness, improving productivity, and creating a more favorable environment for the generation of formal employment.\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>We recommend reading: <a href=\"https:\/\/deultimominuto.net\/nacionales\/copardom-respalda-dialogo\/\">Copardom supports tripartite dialogue to advance labor code reform<\/a><\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\nAmong the proposals put forward are the <strong>establishment of a cap on severance<\/strong>, the recognition of <strong>labor liabilities<\/strong> as deductible from income tax, the calculation of severance based on the <strong>average of the salaries earned<\/strong> by the worker and not the last salary, as well as the <strong>implementation of unemployment insurance<\/strong> contemplated in Law 87-01.\n\nThe extension of the <strong>trial period from three to six months<\/strong> has also been suggested as a measure to encourage youth employment and reduce the risks associated with hiring, in addition to the revision of <strong>Article 86 of the Labor Code<\/strong>, in order to establish limits that provide greater predictability to labor costs.\n\nThe issue was previously addressed in the Labor Advisory Council, without reaching a definitive consensus, so the proposal to open a new space for dialogue that allows progress on balanced agreements between employers, workers, and the Government is positively valued.\n\nThis debate takes place in a context where the Government is promoting initiatives such as <strong>RD-Trabaja<\/strong>, aimed at promoting formal employment, labor insertion, and social security, reinforcing the need for a modern, sustainable labor framework aligned with the demands of the country's economic and social development.\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>You can also read: <a href=\"https:\/\/deultimominuto.net\/nacionales\/gobierno-impulsa-el-empleo\/\">Government promotes employment program \"RD-Trabaja\"<\/a><\/strong><\/h5>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Santo Domingo. \u2013 The issue of severance pay was once again placed at the center of the national debate on the reform of the Labor Code, with calls to resume a tripartite dialogue that allows consensus on pending points without affecting the acquired rights of workers.
