The operation, called <strong>Shield of Childhood<\/strong>, was carried out with the support of international organizations, according to the <em>EFE Agency<\/em> based on official sources.\n\nDuring the intervention, authorities arrested <strong>five people<\/strong> linked to the <strong>possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material<\/strong>. According to information released by the <em>EFE Agency<\/em>, more than <strong>40 electronic devices<\/strong> were seized, including mobile phones, laptops, tablets, USB devices, and compact discs. These items were classified as <strong>key evidence for the progress of the investigations<\/strong>.\n\nThe <em>EFE Agency<\/em> reported that the operation was supported by the Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) division of the United States and the organization <strong>Our Rescue<\/strong>, which collaborated in the identification and tracking of the network. Of all these actions, <strong>15 operations included international collaboration<\/strong>.\n\nPanamanian legislation establishes criminal penalties of <strong>10 to 15 years in prison for cases of child sexual exploitation when the victim is under 14 years old<\/strong>, and <strong>3 to 5 years for crimes of possession of child pornography<\/strong>.\n\nThe province of <strong>Bocas del Toro<\/strong>, located on the Caribbean coast of Panama, has been identified as a region vulnerable to this type of crime due to its proximity to the Costa Rican border and the presence of routes used by criminal networks.\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Bilateral Cooperation<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\nCooperation between both countries has been reinforced by bilateral agreements and joint operations to protect <strong>vulnerable migrants and children<\/strong>. According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM Panama), Panama and Costa Rica maintain a coordination that allows the rescue of minors victims of exploitation at border crossings and have signed instruments such as the <strong>Migrant Protection Agreement<\/strong>, where specific measures for child protection are established. The authorities of both countries, including the <strong>National Secretariat for Children, Adolescents and Family (SENNIAF)<\/strong> in <strong>Panama<\/strong> and the <strong>National Child Welfare Board (PANI)<\/strong> in <strong>Costa Rica<\/strong>, work together to channel complaints and offer care to the victims.\n\nDuring the Ordinary Meeting of the Council of <strong>Central American Labor Ministers<\/strong> and the <strong>Dominican Republic<\/strong>. The <strong>regional director of IOM<\/strong>, Marcelo Pisani, highlighted the importance of protecting the rights of migrants through comprehensive migration management. The ministers of Panama and Costa Rica underlined the role of IOM in facilitating the agreement, which seeks to strengthen institutional cooperation and protection frameworks.
