He entered the diplomatic service in 2001 and has held positions in the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as abroad, with experience in migration, Mediterranean policy, and relations with Asia. He has held positions in Tirana, Herat (Afghanistan), Beijing, and Chongqing, where he was consul general, in addition to serving as diplomatic advisor to the Minister of Economic Development. \n\n\n
