<\/a>The Minister of Commerce and Industries, Julio Molt\u00f3<\/strong>, assured that Panama projects for this year an export growth close to 7.8%<\/strong>, despite the departure of the Cobre Panam\u00e1 mine and the recent effects on sectors such as the banana industry.<\/p>\n\n\nAs explained, the country has managed to diversify its exportable offer<\/strong> and expand the base of products that reach international markets<\/strong> that are increasingly demanding.\n\n\n

<\/a>\u201cPanama continues to strengthen its export competitiveness<\/strong> and expand its presence in international markets,\u201d Molt\u00f3 stated during a business meeting<\/strong> organized by the Panamanian Association of Business Executives (APEDE<\/strong>), where he defended that the country maintains the capacity to produce, transform, and export goods with added value<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\nThe official figures at the end of March show a significant change<\/strong> within the Panamanian export basket. Frozen shrimp and prawns<\/strong> took the lead in national exports, with sales of $31.4 million<\/strong> and a 12.5% share of total exports<\/strong> in the first quarter of the year, surpassing bananas, which historically topped the list of products sent abroad.\n\n\n

<\/a>Panamanian coffee continues to consolidate in premium markets in Asia, Europe, and the United States.<\/p>\n\n\nWe recommend reading:\n\nBehind the shrimp, other products appear such as cane sugar, tin, fresh watermelons<\/strong>, crude palm oil, copper and aluminum waste<\/strong>, in addition to Panamanian coffee<\/strong>, which continues to consolidate in premium markets<\/strong> in Asia, Europe and the United States.\n\nMolto explained that the rise of Panamanian shrimp responds to changes in global supply chains<\/strong> and the quality offered by the national product. He even revealed that Ecuadorian companies<\/strong> in the shrimp sector have begun to establish operations in Panama<\/strong>, attracted by the country's logistical and productive conditions.\n\n\"Nowadays our shrimp are desired<\/strong> worldwide,\" said the minister, who also highlighted the growth of processing plants<\/strong> and the Panamanian fishing sector<\/strong>.\n\nThe official recalled that in 2023 the main export product<\/strong> of Panama was copper from the mine<\/strong> Cobre Panama, an operation suspended since the end of that year after the unconstitutionality ruling<\/strong> issued by the Supreme Court of Justice. To that was later added the crisis in the banana sector<\/strong>, which also temporarily affected national exports.\n\nHowever, the Government maintains that the country has managed to sustain export growth<\/strong> through greater product diversification<\/strong> and markets.
