Frozen&nbsp;<strong>shrimp and prawns<\/strong>&nbsp;took the lead in national exports, with sales of&nbsp;<strong>$31.4 million<\/strong>&nbsp;and a&nbsp;<strong>12.5% share of total exports<\/strong>&nbsp;in the first quarter of the year, surpassing bananas, which historically topped the list of products sent abroad.\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.infobae.com\/panama\/2026\/05\/19\/mama-yo-me-quiero-borrar-el-grito-desesperado-ante-los-ataques-del-acoso-escolar-en-panama\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a>Panamanian coffee continues to consolidate in premium markets in Asia, Europe, and the United States.<\/p>\n\n\nWe recommend reading:\n\nBehind the shrimp, other products appear such as <strong>cane sugar, tin, fresh watermelons<\/strong>, crude palm oil, <strong>copper and aluminum waste<\/strong>, in addition to <strong>Panamanian coffee<\/strong>, which continues to consolidate in <strong>premium markets<\/strong> in Asia, Europe and the United States.\n\nMolto explained that the rise of Panamanian shrimp responds to <strong>changes in global supply chains<\/strong> and the quality offered by the national product. He even revealed that <strong>Ecuadorian companies<\/strong> in the shrimp sector have begun to <strong>establish operations in Panama<\/strong>, attracted by the country's logistical and productive conditions.\n\n\"Nowadays our <strong>shrimp are desired<\/strong> worldwide,\" said the minister, who also highlighted the <strong>growth of processing plants<\/strong> and the <strong>Panamanian fishing sector<\/strong>.\n\nThe official recalled that in 2023 the <strong>main export product<\/strong> of Panama was <strong>copper from the mine<\/strong> Cobre Panama, an operation suspended since the end of that year after the <strong>unconstitutionality ruling<\/strong> issued by the Supreme Court of Justice. To that was later added the <strong>crisis in the banana sector<\/strong>, which also temporarily affected national exports.\n\nHowever, the Government maintains that the country has managed to&nbsp;<strong>sustain export growth<\/strong>&nbsp;through&nbsp;<strong>greater product diversification<\/strong>&nbsp;and markets.
