Since then, this day has become an opportunity to <strong>educate the public, promote protection actions and encourage respect for these millenary reptiles<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\nTurtles, which have inhabited the Earth for more than <strong>200 million years<\/strong>, have survived the extinction of the dinosaurs, but today their survival depends on human behavior. Habitat loss, illegal trade, the consumption of their meat and eggs, and marine pollution are just some of the causes that seriously threaten their existence.\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/deultimominuto.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/tortuga-1024x538.jpeg\" alt=\"D\u00eda Mundial de la Tortuga\" class=\"wp-image-93567\" style=\"width:303px;height:auto\" title=\"\"><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A fascinating and vulnerable reptile<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\nTurtles, scientifically known as <strong>chelonians<\/strong>, belong to the reptile order and are characterized by their emblematic shell, which is directly connected to their spine. Currently, around <strong>357 species<\/strong> are recognized, many of them endangered due to <strong>factors such as climate change, pollution, and poaching<\/strong>.\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Actions and activities on World Turtle Day<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\nDuring this day, in different parts of the world, <strong>talks, educational campaigns, beach cleanups, release of hatchlings into their natural habitat, and fundraising activities<\/strong> are organized for research and conservation of turtles. The goal is to raise awareness among all generations, especially the youngest, about the need to protect and respect these animals.\n\nWorld Turtle Day is more than a commemoration; it is a call to <strong>responsible and collective action<\/strong> so that turtles continue to be part of the planet's biodiversity.
