Santo Domingo.\u2013<\/strong> The National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation<\/a><\/strong> (INTRANT) launched the \u201cTraffic Guardians\u201d<\/strong> program, a student volunteer initiative aimed at strengthening road safety education and fostering a culture of respect and responsibility on public roads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project, promoted by the director of INTRANT, Milton Morrison, allows students to fulfill their social service hours by participating in road safety orientation and awareness activities, also becoming promoters of good practices within their communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of this strategy, INTRANT and the Ministry of Education (MINERD) signed an agreement to incorporate road safety education in schools and develop training sessions aimed at drivers, pedestrians, and motorcyclists, with the purpose of promoting responsible behavior on the roads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Morrison highlighted that civic education is a fundamental tool for reducing traffic accidents and promoting safer coexistence. “Road safety education is the most powerful tool for saving lives,” he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Response to high road accident rates<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The initiative arises in a context marked by high traffic accident rates in the country, considered one of the leading causes of mortality. According to data cited by the institution, more than 3,000 deaths from road accidents are recorded each year, with a rate exceeding 60 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Faced with this reality, the program seeks to generate behavioral changes from an early age through the training and awareness of students, who will be able to replicate this knowledge in their family and community environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

INTRANT explained that “Traffic Guardians” is based on the provisions of Law 63-17 on Mobility, Land Transportation, Traffic, and Road Safety, which establishes road education as an essential component within the national educational system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Likewise, the entity pointed out that the initiative is part of the institutional efforts to strengthen accident prevention, promote respect for traffic regulations, and contribute to safer mobility throughout the national territory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
