Dominican Republic<\/em>.<\/strong> The Minister of Interior and Police, Faride Raful, received this Thursday the minister<\/a> of Public Security of Costa Rica, Gerald Campos, who is making an official visit to the country with the aim of learning firsthand about the security strategies implemented by the Dominican Republic, in particular the coordination model of the Joint Task Force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 The minister was accompanied by the ambassador of Costa Rica to the Dominican Republic, Edwin Arias, and by the general director of the Public Force of that country, Ra\u00fal Rivera. During the meeting, both delegations exchanged experiences on citizen security and the strengthening of operational capabilities to face common challenges affecting the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of their work agenda, Costa Rican authorities participated in the weekly follow-up meeting of the Joint Task Force, held at the National Police headquarters, where they learned firsthand about this model of institutional articulation, considered a benchmark for its ability to coordinate efforts between civilian, police, and military agencies in the fight against crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thanks to this mechanism of permanent coordination and monitoring, the Dominican Republic has managed to sustainably reduce its homicide rate to reach the lowest levels since records began, placing it among the countries with the lowest homicide rates in Latin America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following his visit, Gerald Campos positively assessed the results achieved by the Dominican coordination system in security matters and expressed Costa Rica’s interest in studying this model, at a time when the Central American country is advancing in the implementation of its own task force. Campos is part of the Government led by President Laura Fern\u00e1ndez Delgado, who took office on May 8, 2026, and has placed citizen security and the fight against organized crime among the main priorities of her administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Costa Rican minister’s work agenda also included a meeting with the Dominican Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Antonio Fern\u00e1ndez Onofre, as well as a visit to the Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cybersecurity and Intelligence Center (C5i) of the Armed Forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During these activities, the Costa Rican delegation learned about the technological tools, monitoring systems, and coordination mechanisms that support strategic decision-making in security matters, as part of the exchange of best practices between both countries.
