Santo Domingo.- The minister of Defense, lieutenant general Carlos Fernandez Onofre, He conducted a supervisory tour in Dajabón to verify the progress of the construction of the border perimeter fence, ensuring that a total of 32.5 kilometers of this land defense and security work have been completed.
According to a statement from his office sent that Saturday, Fernandez explained that "The first thing we do is visit the main raw material, which are our soldiers, who day after day give their best to guarantee the integrity of our land border and that the population, including the livestock sector, feel safe and protected."

He stressed that this security favours trade and especially the livestock sector. The fence or wall is being built along the entire border with Haiti, except in steep areas where "intelligent" surveillance will be used.
«Starting next April, construction will continue in the La Sal sector, located after El Libertador and will reach the Capotillo municipal district, in a stretch of 10 to 11 kilometers,» the senior official said.
The Minister of Defense said that "in Dajabón, the works are 99.5 % complete, only a few touch-ups are missing. The first 24.5 kilometers of the wall have been built and a bridge is being built that will link the industrial zone of Codevi with La Vigía.
«In Pedernales, 8 kilometers of fencing are already ready, which adds up to 32.5 kilometers and the first stage is completed in Elías Piña and Jimaní», he said.
Fernández Onofre was accompanied by the commander general of the Army, Major General Jorge Iván Camino Pérez, among other high-ranking officers.
